Key words for headshots and branding photos

In my blog post with tips about how to prepare for your photo session, I encourage everyone to define three words to describe themselves or their business brand. These words can help us choose backgrounds, poses and props. Key words can also help with the selection of your favorite photos for retouching after your session. Which adjectives do you want to project in your photos? To provide an example, I will outline my three key words.

1.Empathetic

I understand how awkward it is to have your photos taken! I confess to feeling a little uncomfortable when the camera is turned around on me. I usually have new headshots taken every couple of years. I use them for my business promotions, but it's also useful to put myself in my client's shoes and remember how the process feels.

2.Collaborative

Understanding my client's requests and desires is incredibly important for achieving great photos. I like to find out how the photos will be used and try to tailor the images to their specific needs. A branding session is a perfect chance to dig a little deeper into a client's vision for their images and how they are hoping to connect with their audience. Here's a link to a blog post with a brand photography questionnaire that helps clients with defining your needs for photography.

3.Encouraging

While someone is in front of my camera, I offer tips for posing and expression in a encouraging way. I extend that positive feedback while we review photos so that I can help my clients choose their favorite photos for retouching.

All of these adjectives support my business "through line." My goal is to to help my clients have a good experience and then receive excellent images to build their business brand.
